The Lesbian Donkey Organic Olive oil

The Lesbian Donkey is a small family owned business that was founded in 2013, with main office in Plomari. We desired a better future for our family away from the big city. Like our ancestors, we live close to the land, our lives intertwined with the rhythms of the earth.

Our business philosophy has been directly shaped by our intimate involvement in the cultivation, harvesting, production and distribution of our olive oil. Our company has a social orientation and is now in the process of obtaining the B Corporation certificate for social benefit businesses.

The Lesbian Donkey Olive oil

On the island of Lesbos, in the mountains near our home in Plomari this premium raw, unfiltered olive oil is produced from the local olive variety “valanolia”.

Distinguished by its excellent flavor, golden color, and fruity aroma its acidity does not exceed 0,5% of oleic acids ranking it as one of the highest in quality extra virgin, organic olive oils on the market.

THE PRODUCTION PROCESS

The inaccessibility of the region with the steep slopes requires harvest to be done in the traditional way, without the use of machinery. The olive groves are cultivated with the principles of organic farming.

Only the fruits on the tree are collected and everything else that has fallen on the ground remains as a natural fertilization. The trees are groomed and shaken in small groups with traditional chestnut wood sticks. Then the olives are transferred to the nearest road and the fastest possible to the mill for grinding, ensuring a high quality end product.

In the cooperative cold press mill in the Palaiochori village the harvest is collected and crushed. There tradition meets science in order to obtain a high quality product. Furthermore, the accuracy of chemical and sensory analysis by international accredited labs ensures the overall quality of our product in order for the final recipient to be sure to obtain a truly organic extra virgin olive oil.
